Understanding signal flow, part 1

- It's easy to understand signal flow when you're thinking about signal passing through a cable, whether it's digital or analog, it's going through the cable one side outside the other. But when you're dealing with signal flow in a software, especially in Premiere, there's many different places in the signal flow where your signal can go that can be adjusted with the gain stage. Gain stage is basically where you can adjust volume and gain, gain stage, either up or down, decrease or increase the gain in your gain stage. And lots of time, you may not even understand that we are in a gain stage, whether it's EQ compression, or whether it's a key frame of volume, or a stereo master out. There's many different places, pre-fader or post-fader, that you can have gain staging. And that gain staging is simply increasing or decreasing the gain of where you're at with the signal flow.
