- Lighting for green screen when shooting photos is a lot like lighting a normal photographic session where you want a key light, a fill light and a back light or a hair light. But it is more critical when you are doing green screen because one of the things you want to make sure is that you have that separation between your talent and the green screen. And then you also need to light your background. So, ideally, five lights would be great. I would normally like two lights, one on each side for the background. But I can get away with using a nice big softbox here and that's just going to throw some nice soft light in the background. So I'm not going to worry about that now. I'm going to position these three lights as I normally would. I'm going to put my key light up here at a nice 45 degree angle to represent the sun. That's going to give me most of illumination.
