What you need to know before taking this course

- Hi, my name's Rich Harrington and I'd like to welcome you to this title about working with audio in Premiere Pro. I make my living as a video direction and a video editor and for years I've struggled with how to get a better mix and to solve problems. It's very difficult as an editor to get it right. Now, a lot of folks expect that editors can do everything. That you can do graphics, that you can do audio, that you can color-grade. And because of that it's important that you learn to round out your skills. So today we are joined by a top expert who knows a lot about audio. I'd like to welcome Cheryl. And Cheryl, tell folks just a little bit about how you approach audio. - Well, thanks, Rich. I'm really glad to be here today. Thank you for having me. I approach it by telling the story and what is going to tell the story in sound. Whether it's sound design or editing the dialog or the music and then I dissect it element by element and then put it back together again for the full mix. And at the end you'll have the full mix that you can output, Rich, and then you'll also understand a little bit more about how to dive into audio a little bit more deeply. - Alright, in this course what we're going to do is approach the entire work flow from the point of view that you've already cut together a project and need to clean it up. Now, we will share some particular advice about getting your sequence set up right and organizing your tracks in the beginning but we assume that you already know how to edit. Chances are as a working video editor you've put together some projects before. Now, we will focus on techniques to get the best mix, walk you through all the different things like the clip mixer, the track mixer, effects, setups, settings, you name it. But we're not going to teach you how to edit. What we're going to teach you is how to choose the right settings and how to solve common problems as well as organize a project so it's professional. Now, Cheryl, I've worked with you before and I've seen you do amazing things. I'm really looking forward to learning how to fix common problems. Things like background noise and EQ and how to use compression. - And how to get the mix that's going to pass QC. And one thing that you and a lot of editors have a challenge is that you wear so many hats. So let's dive into the audio world a little bit and allow you to smooth out that end so that you can approach it more like I do.
