Who benefits from captions?

- When it comes to captions, it's not just about helping those with auditory impairment issues. Captions can help many different target audiences, which is why they've become very popular. Of course with captions, we are helping the deaf and the hard of hearing. This let's folks have equal access to information, ensuring that they can actually read what's happening in the video and get a description of other audio content. However, folks that are going to be traveling often benefit from this. Oftentimes at airports, it's impossible to hear the television sets but being able to read the captions on the broadcast material means that people can keep up with the news of the day or get other important information. It's the same in the back of a taxi cab. When I ride in cabs in New York and Las Vegas, there's often television sets. But I usually leave the sound off but I can glance at the screen and easily read what's being said. This is also useful to folks that speak a foreign language…
