- The alpha channel is a way to preserve transparency in video. Just like the channels red, green, and blue, alpha is just a channel with bit information that goes from full opacity to no opacity. If we export with an alpha channel, it means that we are exporting the transparency layer as well, and this can be composited over other video and have see-through sections. So let's see how this works on export so that you can export these types of files, in order to import them with transparency. I'm starting here in Premiere Pro and I've already set up a graphic. You can see it's a text layer with kind of a fancy, if not that attractive animation, that's over this background with all these stars and fireworks and whatnot. You can see everything is red and it's unrendered because it's having to calculate that every time I go through it, calculate the effect.
