The history of green screen

- The use of green screen has been around for a long time, in fact more than 100 years. It started with groups like RKO Pictures and they used it on films like "The Thief of Bagdad." When people talk about green screen and blue screen, it's actually rich in tradition, and something that people have been using for film and video production forever. But it's also worked into the world of photography. Green screen technology has more than 100 years of history, and it keeps getting better with more innovation. In the 1950's, Warner Bros. actually improved upon the technology with traveling mats to deal with complex subjects moving through a scene. It was used to great effect on Earnest Hemingway's "Old Man and the Sea," and the technology continues to evolve. In fact, some of my favorite films, "Star Wars," have used it to great effect.
