An overview of caption formats

- When it comes to working with captions, there are a lot of formats out there. That's because captions are used in many different ways. From everything from subtitles on DVDs and Blu-ray discs, to embedded captions for broadcasts, to formats designed for open captions for the web. You're gonna encounter a lot of different file formats. Let me show you just a handful of the options that are out there. And all of these are recognized by YouTube. So what you'll find is a wealth of choices. These extensions may seem unusual to you, and I regularly find myself having to look up what a particular caption is. If you send out to a caption company, or you download from a website, you'll encounter options like this. Now, the SubRip .srt is often used with things like DVDs and others. But it is widely compatible. There are other formats, for example, like the Lambda format, which is particularly used mostly in Japan.
