A quick primer: Human visual physiology
- As I mentioned in the previous movie, understanding the human visual system and understanding a little bit about human physiology is a really important step to getting better with color correction. Once you understand how our eyes work and how our brain processes what our eyes see, you can manipulate those characteristics in your color work to affect the average viewer. So, let's start out with a little bit about the human eye. Our eyes, if they were a camera, and let's be clear, they're not a camera, but if they were a camera, they'd probably be one of the best cameras ever made. Your eyes are pretty good with color, but they are really sensitive and really good when it comes to luminance, or brightness. Here's a good test. Take something that's really super saturated, like a red shirt. Under normal lighting conditions, that shirt seems nice and saturated. But if you take it into a poorly lit room, what happens?
