Accordion folds

- Accordion Folds are some of the most common folding styles used in brochure folding. The common characteristic of accordion folds is the zigzag back-and-forth nature of the panels. The accordion family is a large one and there are lots of variations. Here are a few. Left to right, there's a Standard Accordion, an Accordion with a Short Fold to the outside, what's called a Wrapped Accordion where you add a panel and wrap the cover to close the edge, and a Stepped Accordion where the panels taper and create a stepped effect on the side. In the more exciting side of things, there's a Pop-Out Accordion, a Swinger Fold, and Meandering Accordion. A few things to note about accordions. They are notoriously problematic if you need to insert them into envelopes by machine. The process is called auto-inserting and it's used primarily for direct mail.
