Choosing the right fold for your project

- The obvious question that comes up after a designer realizes just how many options they have is how do I know which folding style is the best choice for my project? It's a great question, and the answer relies on a combination of factors including organization, elimination, and finally, instinct. To make it easier for you, here are several questions to ask yourself at the beginning of the process that will help you to rule in and rule out certain folding styles. First, is the content you're working with text-heavy? And must that content be read in a particular order? Alternately, is the content image-heavy with shorter "nuggets" of information? If it's text-heavy, you need enough panels to hold the content, so you're probably looking for folding styles with at least four panels. If the text must be read in a particular order, you should rule out the roll fold. The rolling panels can cause confusion as to the order in which the material should be read.
