Die cuts

- Everybody loves a die cut. Die cuts are cuts in the paper, usually made with a shaped piece of metal. Paper can also be cut with a laser. Although they're not usually in the cheap tricks category, a die cut can be a powerful design element and a lot of fun to work with, if you have the opportunity. Here are some cool ideas to get your creative juices flowing. Try adding a die cut to the cover of a brochure. It can be visually interesting to turn the cover panel into a shape, for example, a half circle. The shape creates a nice contrast with the rectangular or square format of the panels beneath it and the addition of a hard shape can inspire different creative solutions, or graphic elements in the layout that might not have been entertained when the cover shape was rectangular.
