Overview of the project

- One thing to bring up before we start is that this will be a long-term outdoor sign. We can expect it to be here 20 years. Because of that, we want to avoid trendy styles. They might look great today, but in five years, maybe three, not to mention 20, they'll be completely dated. Sounds obvious, but it's a big temptation. We wanna look cool, we wanna be cutting edge, all that, but this is a place to resist. The bigger reason to avoid trends is that for a designation like this, you want to send some gravitas, you know, weight, authority, a look to the sign that says this is significant. Okay, first step: read the copy carefully. Don't skim. It's your job to know what you're designing, and if you don't, you'll start making arbitrary decisions. Read first for the big view, the general tone and thrust of the whole thing. Read second for what kinds of information are present, and how much of each kind there is.
