Proprietary folds
- There's an additional category of folds that tend to fall under the specialty umbrella but that must be singled out for their status. There are companies that have developed unique solutions and patented or branded them. The patented solutions are called proprietary solutions, and the folded solutions that are not patented, but that have been marketed under a trademark name, are considered branded solutions. If the solution is owned, in many cases you must work with the patent holder to be able to use that fold for your project. Here are some of my favorite proprietary folding solutions. These are all from my good friends at Structural Graphics. This is called the book cube. It's great for mail. Ships entirely flat. But, when opened, you get a surprising, dimensional experience. So fun. This is called a snapper and you'll see why. It has this fun snapping mechanism. And I love it because you get dimension, movement. They also did some fun things with the die cut. And it just snaps…
