- I could have easily titled this course Beyond the Swatch Book. Knowing from personal experience that there is nothing like building a comp or dummy or at least experiencing large sheets of paper to take paper specifications to the next level. After all, paper is a physical material that needs to be handled in the form of your end project to best evaluate its suitability. Early in the design process is the best time to give careful consideration to paper. And, as indispensable as a swatch book is for the selection process, it's only the first step. Nothing quite replaces having large sheets to evaluate color and surface like a full size sheet like this. And the other properties that make every kind of paper unique. Once you see a surface area larger than the small sample in a swatch book, it can help you validate your choice, or send you in another direction entirely.
