- [Instructor] True grit. I want to come now to a term that I take very seriously, 'cause it's subtle, and when someone tells me to add grit to something, it, to me, means a subtle application of various different factors. A little bit of overdrive, a little bit of compression, a little bit of saturation, all combined, to me, to produce grit. The comment to add grit to something oftentimes can occur because a part in a song sounds too clean to the ear of the person making comments. And I'm going to focus on a section of this song we've been working on to illustrate that. I want you to pay attention to the tinkly keyboard here. ♫ In the dream - [Instructor] Somebody might think that sounds too clean. ♫ But for now, let's live for now - [Instructor] So let's take a look at what I've applied to that to add grit.
