- [Instructor] Here, I've recorded electric bass guitar with a purposefully dark, muddy tone. (jazz music with distinct bass line) Now, maybe this is the sound that is needed for a track, like a groove-laden R&B or any dub and reggae music, but I get sent a lot of home recordings to mix, and sometimes they sound like this, even when it isn't the sound that we need for a track. What can you do? Well, you can try boosting the EQ, and let's check this out. (bass line) A little sweep around. (bass line) Find a point; now let's hear that with the drums. (Bass and drums) We've added some articulation, but some of the notes are kind of jumping out in a funny way. Now let's go to try a different kind of EQ. Let's try a cut. (bass line) I'll boost the frequency, I'll boost the level, I'll look for a frequency. (bass line) Hear where it's booming out in there? (bass line) And I'll cut. (bass line) And I'll play with the Q, and the width. (bass line) Get some of that honkiness out. Let's hear…
