Analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion overview

- [Instructor] In this chapter I'll explain what an Analog-to-Digital and Digital-to-Analog Converter is, as well as the basics of how they work. I'll also give a few examples of common converters. You may have heard these referred to as converters, A-D, D-A, DAC or even Audio Interface. They all essentially refer to an electronic device that converts signal to and from the analog and digital world. The idea is for the conversion to be done as accurately as possible to preserve their original characteristics of the recorded source. They are versatile in that they typically offer a wide range of sample rate and bit rate options usually chosen on a project to project basis, but can also be sometimes dependent on available disk space or CPU power.
