- [Narrator] In this chapter, we're going to look at ways to process and improve film audio. We're going to start here with compression. Now, compression is one of those things I just didn't understand initially. Everyone talks about, how important it is, but it just didn't make sense to me. Over time though, I continually learning what a huge difference compression makes and that was really etched in stone over the course of working on the assurance. But it might not initially make sense why it's so powerful. So stay with me here. But essentially, audio compression is an intelligent, automatic volume control. You tell a compressor, "Hey buddy, when the audio signal gets to this specific volume threshold, then reduce everything louder than that point by this specific amount or ratio."
