- [Instructor] Sometimes the playing of a live bass player isn't precise enough. And you either want it to fit better in the pocket, or sound more like it was sequenced. Here's a cool gating trick that will easily accomplish the task without resorting to heavy track editing. First of all, let's listen to the track, listen to the guitar and the bass especially. (rock music) Actually, it sounds pretty good. It was played fairly tightly together but it's still not precise enough for maybe what we want to do with the track or how we want it to sound or feel. So here's a cool trick that we can do. The first thing we'll do is, we'll insert a gate into the path, the signal path of, in this case it's the bass amp. There's a bass DI and a bass amp track, but we'll just do one track right now. So we'll go get our standard Pro Tools gate here. And now we're going to add a key input. We're going to go to, let's just say 11. This is buss 11. So we'll add buss 11 over on the rhythm guitar track…
