CS80 Synthesizer history

- [Narrator] The history of CSA starts in 1974 with the GX1 synthesizer. The GX1 was an analog polyphonic synthesizer and it cost $60,000 at the time. It was premiered in 1973 at the NAMM convention. It's reported that Stevie Wonder, John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, and Keith Emerson all bought one. One of the primary features of the GX1 is the super position of two full size velocity sensitive keyboards. The CS-80V in multi mode allows for the creation of the same type of sounds that the GX1 had. Only 3,000 CS-80s were built, so very few people were fortunate enough to own one. Some even had a spare one and bought multiples so that they could have some for parts in case their primary one failed. In 1976, Yamaha introduced the CS-80, which had the same circuits as the GX1. The synth cost around 6,900 at the time, which put it out of the reach of most musicians, but the qualities made an immediate hit.
