Conducting an orchestra

- [Instructor] When you have an orchestra, you need a conductor. I decided to try my hand at this, having had a little experience conducting small choirs and such, so I thought I'd be fine. Well, as it turns out, I wasn't very fine at all, but more on that in a moment. To conduct a musical ensemble, you wave your right arm around in sort of a kind of sign language that indicates where you are in time in the measure. In 4/4 time, the first beat of the measure, aka the downbeat, brings your arm down. On beat two, your arm moves up and inside. Beat three moves your arm outside your body. And then beat four moves your arm up and in the center, almost like you're drawing a backwards number four with your arm. For 3/4 time, you skip the inside movement and just go outside. And I should also point out that a lot of times when you're watching me conduct here, I wish I could say that the camera was flipped or mirrored…
