Creating the sonic vision
- If you give 10 producers a demo of a song, you're likely to get 11 different versions of that song, and those 11 different versions will represent 11 different sonic visions for this song. Let's talk about what sonic vision means, and how that can be incorporated in your next song production. First of all, what will the production sound like? What will each instrument be doing? What instruments are in it? What's the arrangement? What's the vibe of the tune? What does this music sound like in the context of the rest of this artist's work? These are all important things to consider. What are you going for in the song? What is your total vision for everything? That is the creative meat of this whole entire process of song production. This stuff is really hard to talk about. Frank Zappa or someone else has a quote that says something like, "Talking about music's "like dancing about architecture." I feel the same way here.
