Creating and using mix templates
I like to put all of my commonly used effects tracks, submixes and bus labeling into a blank Pro Tools session that I can use as a mixing template, helping me get started with a common set of familiar tools when I start my mix. If I'm creating a song from scratch, I can also create and save session templates of commonly used elements and use that as the basis for creating a new session. Let me show you how I would create an effects template that I could use when I was starting a mix so I could save a little bit of time and have a familiar set of tools. It's kind of like pre-mixed colors that I can just reach for that give me a little bit more inspiration in the early stages of the mix. To do this I would create a New Session. I'm just going to set the default I/O Settings, because actually I'm going to be labeling a lot of my bus pathways in this process.
