- The last aspect of pre-production is the arrangement or the elements that are going to be in the song and how do each of these elements contribute to the overall dynamic arc of the song. We can go back to our original sonic vision here and say how do all the elements that we have envisioned contribute to the whole thing and what are they going to be? Is it live or programmed drums? Are we going to have bass? Are there going to be sub bass, guitars, keys, horns, strings? Whatever you're going to have in there, what will be in the song? What will each of these things play? What do these elements sound like? You can have a guitar playing a lot of different ways. It could be distorted, it could be an acoustic guitar, it could be going through all sorts of crazy pedals and not even sound like a guitar. Are the drum sounds going to be big?
