Delay before plate reverb

- [Instructor] In the days before digital effects and certainly long before computer plugins existed, plate reverbs were a popular way to add some spacial effects to a recording. A common technique was to use a tape delay before the plate to pre-delay the onset of the reverb. For one, this would simulate the effect of reverb in the real world, where if you sang or made a noise in the reverberant room the reverb would not happen immediately. It would need time to reflect off the first surfaces hit by the sound, and then diffuse into the space, creating a natural reverb. The other reason for using pre-delay is to allow the original track that the reverb is being added to a little bit of room to be heard clearly before the reverb develops and could potentially mask it. Commonly, reverb is used on vocals, so I'll demonstrate some reverb pre-delay. I've placed a simple delay plugin before the aux track that the reverb is on.…
