Do different kick drum sizes matter?

- [Instructor] For this experiment I convinced my pal, Jimi Bott, to bring down several different sized kick drums to try out alongside the 22-inch kick that we have at Jackpot Recording. This gave us a 26-inch, a 22-inch, and a 20-inch kick drum to try out. The results are certainly interesting. I felt like it was hard to be totally fair about judging the sounds, as the largest drum had a sealed head and the types of drum heads, the shells, the tuning, damping, and more can change the sound of a kick drum quite a bit. Listen to the dynamic mic on the different outside heads first. Note the changes in sound, low-end blooms out in different ways, and is centered at different frequencies.
