- [Instructor] One thing that you don't have to worry about doing immediately after finishing your song is registering your song with the Register of Copyrights. My recommendation is to wait to copyright your song until it is going to be available for commercial release and that means either it's getting cut by an artist and being put out on their album, or it's coming out on streaming service, on YouTube, whatever the case may be. Until that song is going to be made available for commercial release, there's really no reason that you need to copyright the song. In my experience, you have a greater chance of getting struck by lightening than getting your song stolen. I know that that is the great fear of a lot of songwriters getting started out, including myself.
