- [Voiceover] Another final R-O component of a well-recorded acoustic drum set is the room ambience, and that's usually achieved by one or more large-diaphragm microphones placed throughout the room in strategic positions, and usually not too close to the drums themselves. Even most programmed drum parts come to me now with either a re-amped or replayed room ambience or a manufactured one with a very sophisticated I-R, or, I-R is impulse response, type reverberator, or even a normal sort of DSP-controlled reverberation unit. But, we have here a very well recorded acoustic drum kit and a lot of different options for the microphones. So I'm scrolling down, all the different ones. And I've sort of arranged them in an order that seems to be close to far, so although I wasn't there for the tracking of this, I've arranged it so that it's laid out for you in a way that sounds like it was laid out in the room itself.
