Duck echo effects with compression

- [Instructor] This is a simple but sometimes overlooked mixing trick. Simply place a compressor after a delay or a reverb-type effect on an auxiliary track and set it pretty hard so that when the instrument is playing or the person is singing, it pulls the level that's being sent from the effect way down and when the part eases up, the effect increases in level. Here we've got a vocal and we've got effects. We have the echo boy going here, and then after it we have the compressor. I'm going to first play it with the compressor in bypass mode. ♪ So for the first step ♪ ♪ Let's power down ♪ Do you hear a prominent vocal delay right there? And now I'm going to put the compressor on post delay. ♪ So for the first step ♪ ♪ Let's power down ♪ ♪ Tell me what do you see ♪ ♪ Over and over and over and over ♪ ♪ Repeat these steps ♪ ♪ Til done ♪ And you hear the vocal delay effect rising wherever she's not singing.
