- [Instructor] Here're a couple things to think about if your writing session is going to be a cowrite. First and foremost, keep your ears open. I cannot tell you the number of times that the conversation 15 or 20 minutes before I actually sit down to write with my collaborator is where all of the gems are, and what we draw from for the entire writing session. So the moment you meet up with your collaborator, just be aware that anything and everything that you discuss is potential fodder for a song. A second thing that is really, really helpful in terms of preserving the vibe and the good energy of a writing session is remember to stay positive. And don't criticize a collaborator's suggestions in a writing session. Look, writing sessions are effectively brainstorming sessions, and on occasion, when you're brainstorming, you throw out ideas that are kind of ridiculous. We all do it; no one is immune. But saying to a collaborator, "That was a really dumb idea" will immediately remove…
