Equalizer (EQ) overview

- [Instructor] In this chapter I'll explain what an Equalizer is as well as the basics of how they operate. I'll also go over four types that are used in professional recording studios and explain their differences. These types are Parametric, Graphic, Shelving and Filters. An Equalizer or EQ is a device designed to boost or cut specific frequencies of an audio signal. They are used to correct problems in a signal and also creatively shape the character of the sound. Some EQs are more complex than others. Early EQs had fixed parameters that were integrated into audio playback systems for minor corrections or enhancements. In the 1950's and 60's, EQ's became much more popular and demand for additional functionality grew. Throughout this chapter I'll share audio examples of each type of equalizer.
