- [Instructor] Let's spend a few minutes looking at some popular digital converters. In 2002, Digidesign, now Avid, released their HD converters that were capable of handling sample rates of 96 and 192 kilohertz. The 192 was the most popular version and is still in use at many studios today. These converters were not replaced until 2011 when Avid released the new HD I/O line. The Lynx Studio Technology Aurora 8 and 16 line of converters came out in 2005 and raised the bar in transparency and overall quality. The original concept for the Aurora began in 2002 where designers Bob Bauman and David Hoatson worked extensively to combine the high-channel count from the AES16 card with the quality of the Lynx 2 Converter. In the prototype stage, the working title for the product was Kona and Paul Erlandson was generous enough to provide me with some of the original sketches. This product had a lot to offer, as it featured up to 16 channels of analog and digital I/O in a single rack unit. It…
