Examples of tube and solid state circuits

- [Instructor] Now I'll play some examples to demonstrate the tonal differences between a solid state and tube mic pre. I'll be using the mic pre-amp modules from the Slate Digital Virtual Microphone System. Okay, so we're going to start by isolating individual tracks so you can hear the differences on their own, and then I'll go further and play the entire track at the end. I'm going to cycle through the different mic pre-amp types, starting with the pre-chorus and then moving onto the chorus. You'll first hear solid state and then tube. To start, I have the drums soloed out and we'll listen to just that on its own. (funky percussive music) Okay, so we just heard the different mic pre-amp types on the drums. What you might go back and listen for is how a solid state might have a little bit more punch on the kick drum and also the snare drum, and also with the tube mic pre it might soften those transients a little more.
