- [Instructor] Sometime after "The Assurance" was finished, I had the opportunity to take a course from Hummie Mann, who has written a number of scores for big Hollywood movies. And he's worked on "The Simpsons," all kinds of stuff. And he's kind of a pioneer when it comes to canonizing and teaching film scoring concepts. I was fortunate enough to sit down with Hummie and have him give me some feedback on 1m12. He said some positive things, but that isn't super helpful here, but he also pointed out that I had too much dissonance in these notes right here. (dramatic music) But the big thing he pointed out was that the score is too busy. There are too many things vying for the attention of the listener. This is a pretty common issue for me, actually. I love polyphony where there are multiple melodies going on at once, but I suppose there's a more polished way to do that and probably some rules about how that officially…
