Graphic EQ

- [Instructor] Graphic EQs are versatile but have a much more basic layout than parametrics. They utilize several slider pots that have frequency and bandwidth settings allowing you to boost or cut. These are a very user-friendly type of design as they are extremely easy to understand and use. In live applications, they usually insert these on the main speakers because they allow you to fine tune the sound in the venue, by cutting problem frequencies that cause feedback or undesired resonances. There are also a few graphic EQs that are used in music studios which are popular on drums and guitars. Some examples of graphic equalizers are: the API 560, which was released in 1969 for use in their consoles. Back in those days the 500 series format wasn't a universal format like it is now. The 560 is a 10-band graphic EQ with a balance input and 12db of boost and cut per band.
