(drums playing) - [Narrator] I find myself mixing a lot of home recorded projects and usually the tracks that require the most work are the drum tracks. I think a lot of recorders focus too much on which mics and pre-amps before they actually consider the room that they're doing the drums in for the recording. So for this session, I tracked drums, out on the live floor of my studio at Jackpot with three mics. I used a dynamic mic here on the snare, a ribbon mic up over the kit, and another dynamic mic out in front of the kick drum. And that was all done in the big live room at Jackpot. Then we went back with the same kit, the same mics, the same levels, and put it on to one of our iso booths at Jackpot. You can see it all jammed into the little room right here. So in recording these, we kept all the levels the same. All we did was move the mics and the drums, and what you hear is pretty startling. The room massively affects the sound of the drums.
