- So, if you thought of the drums as the stage upon which your mix stands, then you've got to think of the vocals as where the lighting director shines the brightest spotlight. You know, it's the vocal sound that separates the good from the great mixes and there's lots to talk about when it comes to vocal treatment, but again, knowing where to begin is a huge help when attempting to climb that hill. So let's start with a first impression set, the vocal made on you when all the faders were just up and rolling. I'm going to go back in time here a little bit and I'm going to show you how my thought process worked here. I'm going to, before the vocals starts, turn off the plug-ins.
