Let artists control their headphone mix

- [Instructor] I've had a number of very involved and detailed vocal sessions over the last few years. Some of these involve weeks of lead vocal tracking as well as time for harmony and guest vocalists. For all of my vocal sessions I try to get the artist as comfortable as possible with their headphone mixes and providing them immediate control of the mix is the ultimate way to do so. At my studio, Jackpot! Recording, we have a fancy console for routing audio and a now-discontinued headphone system with remote mixer headphone amplifiers. I wouldn't recommend buying this system though as parts are hard to find and it uses some oddball old school cables. But there is an easy and cheap solution for anyone who wants to try this. Look for an affordable, possibly used analog mixer and set up a snake or mic cables to feed its signal and use the onboard headphone app to drive the singer's cans.
