Making guitar solos stand out in a mix

- One of the things I find myself working on in mixes a lot is setting the guitar solo in a proper spot in the mix. A lot of times, you don't want it quite as loud as say, the lead vocal is, but you kind of want it to have the same presence in a certain way. And I find it gets buried. You don't want to get buried in the other guitars or instruments. Here's a version, I got this mix here up where the guitar's just a little quiet in the mix. (rock music) You can tell he's got some spring reverb on the amp. I think we were using a Fender amp. Also, it's got a bit of a plucky tone, got over here like. (guitar music) You know, he's using a Telecaster, I'm pretty sure, because I always associate that guitar with this player. One of the first things I will look for on a track like this is solo it like we just did and see if there's a lot of low end energy happening, because a lot of times that's stuff you don't need in the mix, and it might be fighting with the bass.
