Making sounds feel distant

- [Instructor] As we talked about in the last chapter, sound design is designing an auditory world, typically with the collection of sound files. And one of the challenges that you'll face is trying to blend those sounds together in a way that makes them feel like they belong in the same world as your sync audio. And sound effects are often recorded to have the highest sound quality possible. And that usually means getting the microphone as close to the sound as possible. And that creates a much more clean and sterile sound than things typically have when they're recorded on a set. So a lot of sound design is taking these sounds and making them feel like they're far away. Now, I've found that taking something recorded with a close mic in a studio and making it feel far away can be done with a combination of these three things. Number one, volume.
