Mid-side mics on acoustic guitar

- [Narrator] There's an interesting stereo miking technique called mid side, where a cardiod mic is facing the sound source and a figure eight mic is positioned as close as possible to the cardioid mic, usually above or below, with both of its pickup lobes facing 90 degrees away from the cardioid's pickup pattern. Then, in the mixing stage, the signal from the figure eight mic is duplicated or molted to create two paths which are then panned left and right with one channel having its polarity flipped to put it out of phase. At this point, the listener will discern the two sides of the figure eight mic as different sources coming from differing directions, as the sides of the mic capsule are facing 180 degrees away from each other.
