- [Instructor] One of the happy surprises of this entire project was working on the score with my dad, which is something I've never done before. My dad lives in a different state and is a computer programmer, but he also went to school for music and knows a lot more about music theory and orchestration than I do. So I asked him for help in that arena, and he graciously agreed to help out. So what is orchestration. Orchestration is preparing the score to be played by an orchestra. Should this melody be played by the contrabass or cellos. If this part is to be played by cellos, then how many cellos. Also, I have no clue about the pitch ranges for orchestral instruments. And I had no idea that, like, violas had their own wacky clef. So then I would have these weekly meetings with my dad where we would go through my scores, and he would say stuff like, "Oh, those notes are too low for violins to play," or, "Oboes are…
