- [Instructor] Whenever a bass is taken direct and the amp is miked as well, a phase difference between the two occurs that can really wreck the sound. Here's how to overcome the problem and get the bass sounding more solid than ever. First of all, let's listen to the song and what I'll do is solo up both bass tracks, the bass amp and the bass DI track, after a little bit. (heavy rock music) (bass guitar playing) - Now that sounds pretty good, but we're not exactly sure what the phase is like, so one of the things we should do right away and you can see I have high-pass filters on both channels. One of the things we should do automatically is flip the phase on one track and see what happens, if it sounds fuller then we know that we needed to flip the phase, something's out of phase. Here we go. (bass guitar playing) And that was just a couple of different shades of the same thing, so we can't say one was necessarily fuller than the other but they did sound different.
