Predelaying reverbs

- [Voiceover] A common practice in the analog years of plate reverbs and tape delays was to add a predelay to a signal before hitting the plate reverb. The reason for this is it simulates the sound of reverbs scattering in a room. If you think about it, if you sing or shout into a room, it goes out into the room, reflects off the walls, diffuses and becomes reverb. So there's a delay time before the reverb starts to happen. Another benefit of this is that it makes the reverb signal happen a little bit after the vocal happens. So let's listen to this real quick. We have a simple reverb plug in, the EMT 140. Right now we have a delay in front of it but it's turned off. So we're gonna hear the reverb straight with no delay. ♫ I forgive us ♫ I have broken this ♫ So now let's go and turn the delay on.
