Recording real-time automation moves

Automation in Pro Tools can be approached in one of two ways: real-time recording of mixing moves or graphically, via the edit tools. For real-time automation, each track in Pro Tools has an Automation Mode selector that can be accessed via the Edit or Mix window. The default state of a track's automation mode is Read. Read mode will play back any previously written automation for that track. If no automation is present, a track is considered open and will attain its static state when manually adjusted. Now, we have a specific window to treat automation in Pro Tools, under Window > Automation. And here we have a master Suspend value that will turn off all automation for all tracks. As you can see, the read goes gray here. I also have Write Enable, and this is going to be important when I want to perform or record real-time automation, as I want to make sure that the property that I want to apply--let's say Volume or Pan--is Write Enabled, or highlighted red here.
