- [Teacher] Okay, so let's talk about another couple of words that we hear quite a bit. And the word I want to focus in on is thump, give something more thump or make it thumpier. And related to that word is the word attack. And those kind of words to me always suggests an adjustment that needs to be made on a transient instrument, an instrument that has a very high degree of transient response built into its envelope, and the envelope is the way the way form first begins. It's the opening challenge of tack of the transient. So we've done a lot with kick drums and snare drums in that regard. Thumpy could also apply to bass, but I want to, since we have ignored them a little bit too much, I want to focus on tom toms for these examples. And we're going to show a different side to the transient response in a section where the toms are featured, and here the request to make them thumpier can be achieved with basically compression and EQ and the changing of the attack of the ambience.
