Solid state mic preamps

- [Voiceover] The next type of microphone preamplifiers I'd like to discuss are Solid State Transistor designs. They came to life as the demand for more cost effective and portable designs increased. Solid State designs run on lower voltages and are much more efficient in their power consumption. They're also typically more durable and better suited for portability. The components they use are much lower in cost and vacuum tubes. Disadvantages to these designs are more difficult user maintenance, and they tend to distort at higher rates in a less musical way. They're also less tolerant to overloads and spikes. Now I'll list some of the most recognizable Solid State mic pres. The Neve 1073 is arguably the most famous preamp of all time. It was introduced in 1970, when Wessex Studios in London put in a request for a newer and larger mixing desk. The result was the A 88 console that featured the brand new 1073 preamp EQ module.
