- [Narrator] I've always used a stereo XY pair of small diaphragm cardioid mics as my drum overheads. A few times I've set up a single mic as on overhead and it would sound pretty decent as well. But I wanted to know what the difference would be if I alternated between stereo and mono with the exact same mics, drummer, and close mics. So first we're gonna listen to the overhead soloed. We have a stereo pair and we have the mono mic. (drum beats) And then we hear in mono. (drum beats) Just listening to the same sections to hear the differences. Stereo, (drum beats) and mono.
