Summing overview

- [Instructor] In this chapter, I'll explain what analog summing is as well as the basics of its operation. I'll also give a few examples of common summing units that are on the market today. Analog summing is the process of combining multiple audio channels down to a stereo signal. Each channel's processing, that is pan, EQ, compression, volume, et cetera, is preserved down the chain as it gets summed into a final stereo channel. Summing inside a digital audio workstation, or DAW, works in essentially the same fashion, but instead it relies on the software's algorithm for the job.
