- [Instructor] Tommy Lee is noted for his particularly bombastic drum sound. If that's the sound you're looking for, here's how to set it up. First of all, let's listen to the track. The drums are completely dry. (drums and rock music) Most of the Tommy Lee drum sound comes from reverb and it's a big reverb. So, we're going to start with our deverb here and we're going to start at 4.5 seconds, it's just the default setting. Have a listen to what it sounds like just on a snare drum. (snare drum and rock music) Actually, it doesn't sound too bad. Except that it's a little long and really what we're looking for is more of the big part of the sound, not so much the decay. The way we're going to fix that is we're going to add a gate. How we treat this gate, though, is going to make all the difference. So, let's have a listen.
